Beni Mellal police thwart international drug trafficking
Beni Mellal – A major international drug smuggling attempt involving 3.96 tons (4.36 U.S. tons) of cannabis resin, known locally as Chira, was foiled by the Beni Mellal Criminal Investigation Department early Wednesday morning, according to a police statement.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), took place on a farm in a rural area near Souk Sebt Ouled Nemma.
Police arrested a 35-year-old suspect at the scene and discovered the huge stash of drugs stored in a warehouse on the site. Authorities also seized two cargo transport vehicles and a significant sum of money believed to be drug trafficking proceeds.
The suspect was taken into custody as part of a judicial investigation under the supervision of the responsible public prosecutor’s office. Meanwhile, police continue their search for other people involved in the criminal network. Investigations are underway to identify and arrest all suspects related to the operation.
