Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was full of praise for his team after the Magpies secured their fifth consecutive Premier League win with a 2-1 win over Tottenham.

Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak scored as Howe’s side came from behind to claim all three points at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Dominic Solanke had given Spurs an early lead and piled on more pressure in the closing stages, but the visitors held on and continued their efforts to move into the top four.

“We had to dig deep today,” Howe told TNT Sports after the game. “It was a tough but huge win for us.”

When asked about a possible handball in the build-up to Newcastle’s equalizer, Howe admitted the ball had hit Joelinton’s arm but said he was not clear about the rules in that situation.

The Magpies boss was also quick to praise the in-form Isak, who became only the third Newcastle player ever to score in seven consecutive Premier League games after Alan Shearer and Joe Willock.

“He (Isak) is in the right place at the right time again, and there’s an art to that,” Howe said.

“(He scored) huge goals for us. He’s on a really hot streak and long may that continue.”

Howe added that his team’s impressive performance of late has helped boost the squad’s confidence.

“The confidence has definitely changed, as it naturally does when you win games. I think that was something we were working towards. Our performances were pretty good overall.

“We’ve had a really difficult run, but amongst that there are games we probably should have won. But we are a very good team. We have good players, so I think we can keep it (the run) going.”

Isak agreed that the mood in the camp was good, but said the players shouldn’t get ahead of themselves.

“It’s about keeping that energy at the same level because it can change at any time. We have to stay focused and still work hard to keep winning.”

Speaking about his own goal hunt, the striker added: “I’m really happy with how things are going. I go into every game with the same mentality to score a goal.

“I don’t think about breaking records or anything like that. It’s just positive.”

“I don’t think it’s just individual, but collective. As a team we have been very good recently. I think we played really well. It makes it easier for the individual. It goes hand in hand.”
