President-elect Donald Trump said Monday that he would “definitely consider a pardon from the New York mayor.” Eric Adams.
“I think he was treated pretty unfairly,” the new Republican president said of the Democratic mayor who did so pleaded not guilty to the federal government Corruption allegations.
Speaking to reporters in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump warned that he did not realize “the seriousness of it all,” suggesting he had not closely examined the evidence against Adams.
But he downplayed the allegations against the mayor, suggesting that Adams would be accused of things as innocuous as accepting an upgrade for an international flight.
Adams, 64, was accused in September of accepting gifts, including luxury trips, from wealthy foreign businessmen over nearly a decade. He was also charged with conspiracy in connection with potentially illegal campaign contributions to his 2021 mayoral bid.
Trump also seemed to suggest that politics could be incorporated into law enforcement.

“I said, ‘You know what? He’s going to be impeached soon,'” Trump said, adding that he made the remark “lightheartedly.”
“And a few months later he was impeached,” Trump said. “So yeah, I would definitely consider a pardon.”

Still on Sunday, Adams said he is “not communicating with the president about a pardon.”
