The French government under François Bayrou has indicated that it will not take into account the proposals of its Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau to ban the veil for those accompanying school trips and university students.
Bruno Retailleau claimed that the veil represents Islamism and the inferiority of women and proposed a change in the law to ban it in these situations.

However, he clarified that these positions are of a personal nature and that this issue will not be placed on the government’s agenda due to the lack of a parliamentary majority.
