Lazio suffered their worst ever home defeat as champions Inter Milan cruised to a 6-0 win in Rome.
Lazio started the evening level on points with Inter and sit at the top of the Europa League table, but had no answer to an impressive attacking display from Simone Inzaghi’s side.
They were unbeaten in 12 home games and hadn’t lost in front of their own crowd since March.
Hakan Calhanoglu gave Inter the lead with a penalty in the 41st minute after a penalty for handball, and Federico Dimarco doubled the lead with a volley before halftime.
Nicolo Barella scored six minutes after the restart to make it 3-0, before Denzel Dumfries scored two minutes later and Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram completed the defeat late on.
Inter remain third in the standings with 34 points from 15 games and are three points behind league leaders Atalanta with one game to go.
Lazio’s previous record home defeat was a 5-0 defeat against Fiorentina in 1959.
Their three biggest defeats in Serie A all came against Internazionale: this defeat came after 1:8 (1934) and 0:7 (1961) in Milan.
