While San Diego Comic-Con gets the most national and even international attention, Southern nerds tend to flock to a very different fan convention: Dragon Con, the five-day, non-stop celebration of all things nerdy. Sure, it’s filled with the usual trappings like chalkboards and showrooms, but everything has the boozy jiggle of an endless party. So much so Battlestar Galactica Reboot icons Edward James Olmos and Aaron Douglas were inspired to tell a room full of fans how the latter actor accidentally exposed his penis to a sound engineer in a particularly raunchy blunder.
The Battlestar Galactica Blooper’s story began with a basic explanation of how the actors had to attach microphones to their costumes so that their dialogue could be heard. A cable was usually routed along a portion of an actor’s clothing and connected to a power adapter in a discreet location. For example, on an actor’s boots for a scene where the boots are not visible. None of this would have been a problem for the poor sound engineer if Douglas hadn’t had a strange tendency to take charge on set.
The Battlestar Galactica Blooper
Douglas began his part of this story by saying that a popular fan question he gets asked at conventions is whether he wears boxers or briefs, to which he happily replies “neither.” However, this strange admission quickly became relevant when the actor described how he was late Battlestar Galactica Sentence; He appeared on the hangar deck in his familiar orange jumpsuit, setting the scene for an unintentionally hilarious blunder. He passed the audio cable over his leg, and Graham – a particularly tall sound engineer – knelt on the floor, preparing to attach the power supply to the actor’s boot.
All of this was business as usual for the entire cast and crew, and Douglas continued chatting with various people while his microphone was plugged in. For reasons he never fully explained, the actor suddenly decided to strike a Superman pose, which resulted in his jumpsuit slipping down. This would have been only mildly embarrassing for most actors, but that’s why Battlestar Galactica The actor hated wearing his underwear, exposing his entire naked body and creating a blooper too spicy to ever share with fans.
Adama saves the day
Incredibly, Douglas only realized something had gone wrong when he felt his penis touch what he described as a “bonk.” Belatedly, a very disturbing thought occurred to him: “That shouldn’t have hit something…that shouldn’t have hit something warm and flesh-like.” As the rest of the cast and crew focused on what was happening, Douglas looked down and saw the poor sound engineer Graham, who looked horrified, both at his proximity to the actor’s penis and his recent contact with it.
On the Battlestar Galactica This was a strange moment on set that could have been quite traumatic for everyone involved. Luckily, the series’ former commander provided the perfect punchline to instantly kill all the tension in the room. To the amusement and horror of Douglas, Edward James Olmos summed up what happened in the funniest way possible: “Aaron just caught the sound engineer off guard!”
When he heard Douglas retell his own punch line during the Dragon Con panel (complete with a funny imitation of the older man’s gravelly voice), Olmos chuckled and he couldn’t resist holding his fingers just a few inches apart to indicate that the other was the other actor’s…um…Viper wasn’t that big. Instead of being offended, Douglas responded with a direct joke Seinfeld: “I was in the pool!” From start to finish, this story demonstrates the strangely funny chemistry between the two Battlestar Galactica Cast, although this is a blunder so slippery that even the Lords of Kobol will never tell you.
