Why today’s court ruling could be good news for Manchester City and Manchester United
Barcelona have reportedly failed in their latest attempt to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Leading Catalan newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claims that the club’s attempt to seek an injunction that would allow it to register the two players failed this morning at Commercial Court 10 in Barcelona.
The cash-strapped European giants will launch another legal battle against La Liga on Monday – Barca claim the organization is incompetent – but a defeat there could result in the two players being available on free transfers in January.
That will alarm a number of top clubs, with attacking midfielder Olmo, a £50million summer signing from RB Leipzig, likely to attract keen interest.
Olmo’s agent in Manchester
The Spain international was a key figure in the country’s European Championship victory in the summer and his agent Andy Bara was believed to be in Manchester to attend City’s Boxing Day draw against Everton.
Bara told the Mail he was there on holiday, but that falls in line with the theory that Olmo would be a perfect fit for struggling champions City, particularly with Pep Guardiola admitting he is looking for reinforcements in January due to a lengthy injury list.
It is believed that Manchester United and Arsenal are also interested in Olmo.
Barca’s financial problems continue
Today’s decision is another blow for Barcelona as they continue to violate La Liga’s financial rules.
El Mundo reports that the club has already explored other avenues to generate revenue that would boost its hopes of re-registering Olmo and Victor, including selling VIP plans at the new-look Camp Nou.
