The Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, spoke on Monday in Rabat about wind energy projects that were started in the kingdom. At the end of 2024, the total production capacity of these projects reached 2,373 megawatts (MW), and in response to an oral question for the “evaluation of success in the field of wind energy”, it underlined during the session of oral questions.
Benali found that the projects were carried out as part of the contractual production in accordance with the 13.09.09 framework for renewable energies and projects in connection with self-production. She said that the multi -year plan set by the ministry between 2023 and 2027 provides for an additional 2.6 GW production of wind energy for an investment of more than 36 billion DH.
Wind projects are characterized by their ability to promote industrial integration and generate activities that strengthen local skills based on local workforce and the acquisition of devices and services, which creates the value of the local economy.
In addition, the minister found that wind energy is one of the flagship projects developed by the Kingdom and highlights its promising potential, especially on the Atlantic coast and in the Tanger region in which the winds reach in certain areas, accelerates between 7.5 and swings 11 m/s, in addition to the potential offered at sea.
