They have charged the Saudi psychiatrist, who has lived in Germany for 18 years, with multiple murders and attempted murder.
But the anti-immigrant, far-right Alternative for Germany party has made gains in opinion polls ahead of early elections in February. And just a few days after the fall of the Assad regime, the government in Berlin froze Syrians’ asylum applications.
Will Friday’s bloodbath, coupled with the dispute over migrants in Europe, further divide Germany?
