From Arsenal to Doncaster Rovers, points don’t always win prizes when it comes to the teams leading the way in games in 2024.

The Premier League’s two calendar year leaders, Arsenal and Liverpool, both missed out on the title, while only two of the teams top two in points in the EFL divisions managed promotion.

At the other end of the scale are Everton, Wolves, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle, who began and ended the year without a manager after Wayne Rooney left the club on New Year’s Eve, and who averaged less than a point a game.

Premier League teams with the most points in 2024

Liverpool finished May nine points behind Manchester City and seven points behind Arsenal, but Arne Slot’s blistering start to life with the Premier League leaders at the end of 2024 has put them between the top two of the year’s final season.

The Gunners lost the fewest games of any team in England’s top four divisions (3) and, tied with the Reds, won the most Premier League games (26), one ahead of City.

All six of City’s defeats came in the final two months of the year, but they remain one of five other teams across the division to have lost fewer than 12 times, alongside Liverpool (4), Chelsea (7) and Fulham (11). ) and Newcastle (11).

More than 20% of Wolves’ points in 2024 have come in the final nine days of the year under new manager Vitor Pereira, while half of Everton’s points have come since September 21 and the other half in April and May after The season began with a 10-game winning streak.

Which EFL teams won the most points in 2024?

After finishing third in the 2023/24 Championship and topping the second tier at the end of 2024, Leeds United have won the most points of any team in elite English football – six more than next-closest rivals Wrexham, who were promoted from and finished in the second tier the year as second in League One.

Third League high-flyers Wycombe Wanderers are the other team to have won more points than Arsenal or Liverpool, and the Whites (7), Chairboys (8) and Red Dragons (9) join West Bromwich Albion, Doncaster Rovers and Stockport County (all 10) as the clubs who lost fewer than 11 games all year while in the EFL.

Unsurprisingly, Leeds (29), Wrexham (27) and Wycombe (25) claimed the most wins, with Doncaster and Walsall winning at least twice more than any other team with 24 wins each.

Luton were relegated from the Premier League at the end of 2024, finishing 19th in the Championship. Luton scored the fourth fewest points of all clubs that had completed a full year of play.

Burton Albion and Bristol Rovers each lost 26 games, but Carlisle United – relegated from League One at the end of the year and second in League Two – surpassed them both with 29 defeats.

In a respectable start to their first-ever EFL season, Bromley have picked up as many points in half as many games as Carlisle this year, while fellow promoted team and play-off contenders Chesterfield picked up three points more than the Cumbrians in 21 fewer games.

However, Carlisle’s win over Accrington in their final game of the year took them to the second-fewest wins (8) with Everton and Rotherham United. Burton conceded an 88th-minute equalizer at Huddersfield Town in the final game of 2024, securing their lowest tally of seven wins.
