Only five players have surpassed Matheus Cunha’s tally of 10 goals in the Premier League between the start of the season and the end of the year, but Wolves’ top scorer will miss out for the first time in January.
The former Brazil striker was suspended for an infamous incident after his side lost at home to Ipswich Town on December 14.
In case any proof was needed of how much he might be missed, the 25-year-old scored in Wolves’ 3-0 win at Leicester City and assisted in Wolves’ 2-0 home win over Manchester United goal and an assist before their two following games.

When is Cunha’s lockdown? How many games will he miss?
Cunha will miss a difficult Premier League game for Wolves as Nottingham Forest face Molineux in the first game of 2025 for both clubs on January 6 (8pm GMT).
Wolves have moved one point out of the relegation zone thanks to two wins and a draw since Vitor Pereira took over as new manager, but Forest – who started the year in second place and enjoyed a run of five straight wins – could be in favor the Portuguese provide the biggest early test.
Forest have won their last three home games, following a 3-2 win at Manchester United and 2-0 wins at Brentford and Everton.
Pereira will also be without Cunha for the trip to Championship side Bristol City in the third round of the FA Cup on January 11 (12pm).
The Robins could test Wolves having lost only to leaders Burnley and Sheffield United in their first 12 home league games and ended the year with two wins in four days at Ashton Gate against Luton Town and Portsmouth.

Why is Cunha banned? Ipswich clash explained
Cunha’s 72nd-minute goal appeared to have given Wolves a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich until Jack Taylor scored the winner four minutes into stoppage time.
Tempers flared in the closing stages after Wolves’ survival prospects were potentially dented in their last game under the leadership of former manager Gary O’Neil.
In footage that drew widespread criticism, Cunha was seen elbowing an Ipswich staff member and removing his glasses from his face after the end of the game, while Rayan Ait-Nouri was sent off in the tunnel.
The Football Association has launched an investigation and also fined Cunha £80,000, even though he may not have played any games in the new year after suffering an injury in Wolves’ final game of 2024.
Pereira withdrew Cunha at half-time of the 2-2 draw at Tottenham due to a suspected hamstring problem, explaining that his number 10 had “felt something” and was “not comfortable for a sprint”.
