“We know where we are,” says Van Nistelrooy

Leicester coach Ruud van Nistelrooy says his team does not view Sunday’s game against Wolves as a must-win game in the Premier League relegation battle.

The Foxes go into the weekend in 17th, one place above the drop zone, five points ahead of the Wolves who are in 19th.

Van Nistelrooy said: “We know where we are in the table and Wolves also know what situation they are in and we are (close to bottom). It is important for us to continue to develop.

“It depends more on where we are in the table and where the opponent is. It’s the next step in the way we want to play and act, and also in how we react to defeat.”

Leicester have won just one of their last six games against teams in the bottom three and Wolves made a change in the dugout this week, replacing Gary O’Neil with Vitor Pereira.

Van Nistelrooy said: “Of course you can research what he (Vitor Pereira) did in Saudi Arabia and how he played in teams he managed before.”

“We can also take a good look at what Wolves have done over the last month, but of course changes can be made.

“Will it be a big change or a small change? These are all questions that we must face and prepare for. We also have to be prepared for some surprises.”

News about the Leicester team

The big problem for Van Nistelrooy is the well-being of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. Hermansen was forced off at half-time against Newcastle last weekend and substitute Danny Ward conceded two goals before touching the ball.

Van Nistelrooy said: “That’s the question, we’re still doing everything we can, including Mads, to make it for the game.”

“There is a chance he can play, that’s the good news. It was worrying that he had to leave the pitch at half-time. Immediate assessment, treatment and rehabilitation have been carried out throughout the week so far. We’ll wait and see what happens today and tomorrow to see if he can play on Sunday.”

About Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks: “Harry has been in full team training this week so he is available for selection again, which is very positive news for the team. Wilfred is in his rehab, he is not on the pitch and is therefore not available for selection.”
