There are many pedometer and step counter apps in the world, but this new app has an entertaining turn. Walkstarwhich Tuesday started in the app storeImproves your training by synchronizing your melodies with your movement. The moment you pause, the music fades and makes it a perfect motivator for those who want to maintain an active lifestyle.
If you run or run for at least 10 seconds, the music begins to play. If the app determines that you no longer move, the music will stop. Playing will resume as soon as you move again.
The app was created by Greg Gardner, who was previously developed LauncherThe app start widget with which iPhone users can start an app, carry out an action or access a website with a tip.
Gardner informed Techcrunch that he got the idea for Walkstar after watching someone who combined an old Sony Walkman with a pedometer. As a result, the device could only play music while walking. (Unfortunately we couldn’t find the original post.)
“I thought it was really smart and realized that the same could probably be reached with an iPhone app and that it could be a really nice motivational tool to encourage people to go more,” said Gardner.
A particularly entertaining aspect of Walkstar is the retro-style interface, which turns your phone into a colorful portable cassette player, which is reminiscent of an old school walkman. A nostalgic note is added with a sound band that plays when the music is started.
Other ordinary functions are the integration of the Game Center to view the best lists and successes. There is also a live activity widget for tracking steps and distance as well as abbreviation integration to start and stop hiking sessions.
The app can be downloaded free of charge. However, there is also a premium subscription if you want to adapt the app with colorful app symbols and cassette adhesive trays. In addition, premium members can display analyzes including their total number and running history.
In the future, Gardner plans to introduce more functions with which people can share their progress and compete with friends. If the app gains sufficient popularity, it can also consider developing an Android version.
It is important to note that Walkstar is currently only compatible with Apple Services, including Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Books and iTunes. Users can also listen to music that they manually load on their devices via the Apple Music app.
Gardner examines the opportunity to add more music streaming integrations, with Spotify being the first goal. A test version with Spotify is currently being checked in the App Store.
“Hopefully it will be approved in the next few months,” said Gardner.
