Virgil van Dijk believes last season’s setbacks can serve as motivation for Liverpool to go for trophies in 2025.
The Reds suffered a disappointing end to their previous season, finishing third in the Premier League after being eliminated from the competition in the title race and eliminated from the Europa League in the quarter-finals.
However, this season Liverpool are in a much stronger position. They currently lead the Premier League by six points and have a perfect record in the Champions League.
Van Dijk spoke of the team’s calm and focused approach, praising their work ethic and collective mindset as they continue to compete on multiple fronts under Arne Slot.
“I think you have to learn from difficult moments and moments that don’t go your way,” he said after Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Lille.
“Most of the guys in the locker room have experienced last year and that should make you better, make you more aware of how you deal with certain situations and circumstances and you should be better prepared. Let’s see.

“At the moment I look at our team and we are very calm, we give our best effort every day, in every game and we need everyone fit, healthy and in shape and that is the goal.”
“We approach every game with the mentality that it’s game by game. It’s always been that way. It’s a beautiful ride, I think you should enjoy it too, and I definitely will.
Liverpool’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. Brentford head coach Thomas Frank recently described the Reds as “the best team in the world”, a claim echoed by Lille striker Jonathan David.
For Van Dijk, this praise is proof of the team’s efforts. “I think it’s kind of a confirmation that we’re on the right track,” he added.
“We work so hard in every game to be a very difficult team to beat.
“When other managers praise you not only for the way you attack but also defend, as well as the team and team you get behind the ball, it’s just a good sign and recognition for your hard work That’s the only thing we can take away from this, and other than that it’s just a matter of focusing on doing it and staying consistent.”
