A Russian-born US citizen who already was behind bars in Russia A second sentence for espionage was imposed following a conviction for bribery.
According to Russian news agencies, Eugene Spector was given a new 15-year prison sentence for his espionage conviction. Spector was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia, but later moved to the United States and became an American citizen.
A Moscow court filed espionage allegations against Spector in August last year, although details of the case have not been made publicly available.

The US State Department said it was aware of reports of a US citizen in Russia is condemned and that it was monitoring the situation.
Spector, a former executive at a medical device manufacturer in Russia, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison in September 2022 for facilitating bribes to an adviser to former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

Assistant Anastasia Alekseyeva was sentenced to 12 years in prison in April for accepting bribes for two expensive vacations abroad.
Dvorkovich served as deputy prime minister under former Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from 2012 to 2018. Dvorkovich is currently head of the international chess federation FIDE.
