The Moroccan Day of Mathematics (MDM), welcomed by the Euromed University of Fès (UEMF), was a great success. The event, which took place on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in which Agora at the renowned university took place, brought together almost 800 math enthusiasts.
This day under the topic “Mathematics as a development vector of development” was much more than a simple scientific meeting: it asserted itself as a real celebration of the intellect, parts and innovation. True to his calling as an intersection of knowledge and cultures, the UEMF welcomed this event, which was organized with the Math & Marocco Association, the Hassan 2 Academy of Sciences and Techniques and Adria Business & Technology.
At first it was an opportunity to remember the great appreciation of the community of Moroccan mathematicians towards their colleagues worldwide. In fact, the journey of bibliometric scientific publications in mathematics in indexed databases such as Scopus or Web of Science shows how much the scientific production of Moroccan researchers is quantitative and qualitatively remarkable. In the same way, the many Moroccan students regularly gave technical schools such as polytechnique, normal SUP ‘or, for example, in general in mathematics, to the point that they are increasingly valued by these institutions.
At the center of this day, several thematic workshops offered the participants an immersive experience that mixed discovery, reflection and openness to the future. The event was characterized by the presence of Mr. Abdelhaq El Jai, an important professor and researcher to Applied Mathematics, who shared his career and work on system theory and gave the participants an overview of the specific applications of scientific research. In particular, he returned the majestic contribution of Moroccan researchers in the theory and modeling of so -called distributed systems; Complex systems because it develops in time and space.
The promotions supported in thirty years in this area are more than 450 and published works that are counted by dozen confirm their secularly recognized awareness. An extraordinary body that is widespread by the public brought three inspiring figures from the academic world and innovation together. Mohamed Amine Khamsi (University of Khalifa, Abu Dhabi), expert in the fixed point theory, Amina Benaceur (postdocectoration am MIT) and Ahmed Assalih (Sopra -HR software) Your flights, your experiences and your vision of the role of mathematics in digital transformations and technological advances.
Highlights of the day also offered thematic workshops an immersive and interactive experience for the participants. Prof. Mohamed El Ibbaoui opened the sequence with an intervention with which the connection between students and discipline was perceived too often as a remote control. Ms. Chaimaa Radiouss organized a funny workshop about logical puzzles and requested the intuition and mobility of the participants.
Finally, a module about the orientation under the direction of Mr. Mohammed Ali Benchekroun, Mr. Idir Loudaoui and Mr. Youssef Hbid enabled to clarify the possible academic routes by putting the challenges and opportunities of the scientific sectors in the perspective. The MDM supports a generation of young brilliant Moroccan mathematicians and is responsible for the democratization of access to mathematics, the most lively scientific spirits and the promotion of intellectual exchange in a strict and stimulating environment. These spaces of the exchange were able to combine the spread of knowledge and participatory pedagogy in order to awaken the curiosity of young people and to reconcile them with mathematics.
During the day, the event was interrupted by a number of fascinating conferences, dynamic workshops and intellectual competitions, which were carefully developed to tackle a variety of age groups and levels. The participants, whether college, pupils or young researchers, were able to examine the diverse facets of mathematics – from classic foundations to contemporary applications. The MDM was also a real platform for young talents. The competitions organized by the level led to a living exchange, a healthy imitation and ended with a price ceremony that celebrated excellence and mathematical creativity.
In the end, the announcement of an even more ambitious edition 2026 inspired the meeting. The MDM has thus confirmed its ambition to become a non -assignable event for everyone who believes in the power of mathematics as a lever for transformation and awakening. Through the reception of this scientific event, the Euromed University of FEZ fully took over its essential mission to train young talents, to feed collective reflection and to promote the spread of knowledge in a framework of excellence, openness and integrity.
