Tim David’s powerful fifty seals the Hurricanes’ victory over the Strikers
Tim David’s explosive half-century led the Hobart Hurricanes to a five-wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 187, the Hurricanes recovered from a shaky start thanks to David’s heroics in the middle overs to secure their fourth win in five games.
Hurricanes are off to a flying start
The Hurricanes got off to a fast start, thanks to an aggressive opening partnership between Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade. The duo added 61 runs in just 28 balls, setting the tone for the chase. Owen was particularly destructive, hitting three sixes in a row off Jamie Overton in the fourth over.
However, Lloyd Pope got the Strikers back into the game by dismissing Owen for 37 off 16 balls. Wade followed shortly after, dropping 27 of 18 as he attempted to defeat Cameron Boyce. The Hurricanes were at 10 1/4 after their trip to the 11th.
Tim David’s exploits
When the borders dried up, Tim David took matters into his own hands. He targeted Overton in the 15th over and smashed three sixes and a four to score 26 runs from the over. David brought up his half-century in just 22 balls, showcasing his explosive batting.
Tim David and Nikhil Chaudhary created an important 75-run stand for the fifth wicket to stabilize the Hurricanes’ chase. Chaudhary contributed a consistent 22 off 22 balls before being run out but David ensured there were no slip-ups.
With only 11 runs needed from the final two overs, David hit a six off Brendan Doggett to ease the pressure and Chris Jordan sealed the win with a boundary. David finished the game unbeaten with an impressive 62 from just 28 balls, hitting six sixes and three fours as the Hurricanes finished the game with eight balls to spare.
Collective strike performance of the strikers
Earlier, the Adelaide Strikers posted a competitive total of 186/5 thanks to valuable contributions from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross. Lynn’s quick 49 from 27 balls, including five fours and three sixes, gave the Strikers a solid start.
Ross played an important role in the middle overs, scoring 47 off 29 balls. He shared a 64-run stand Ollie Pope before falling victim to a brilliant catch from Mitchell Owen. Overton’s brisk 27 not outs from 18 deliveries ensured the Strikers posted a strong result, adding 41 runs in the last four overs.
