TikTok is no longer available in the US
The switch to the US TikTok ban has been flipped. TikTok’s app stopped working and was removed from the App Store and Google Play on Saturday evening, just hours before the ban was set to take effect on January 19.
People who have already installed the app will be greeted with a popup instead. “Sorry, TikTok is currently unavailable,” it says. “A law has been passed in the US to ban TikTok. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot use TikTok for the time being. We are happy that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reintroduce TikTok after he takes office. “Please stay tuned.”
The notice offers the option to close the app or “learn more,” which redirects users to TikTok’s website similar language. Existing users can also download their data from the website. ByteDance’s popular video editing app, CapCut, is also available no longer available within the USA.
