The worst episode of Yellowstone according to IMDb
When the OG “Yellowstone” ended its run On December 15, 2024 (there are still miniseries and spin-offs that are either continuing or have not yet debuted), there was a heated discussion among fans about whether creator Taylor Sheridan followed the Dutton saga he had narrated , with little to- No support in the writing department over five seasons. The fact that this main series of “Yellowstone” was about his model railway, which he was supposed to build, expand and, if he wanted, destroy, did not seem to worry long-time viewers of the series. Sure, they followed the off-screen drama and weren’t particularly thrilled when Kevin Costner’s protagonist was murdered, but on the whole they just wanted to see an extremely frothy story compellingly told with a satisfying conclusion. And they trusted that, more than anything, that was what Sheridan wanted.
To his credit, Sheridan seemed to know what his fan base wanted. Just look at the IMDb ratings and the fact that the Yellowstone franchise appears to be as strong as ever. They may not have always gotten exactly what they wanted, but to quote the Rolling Stones, they generally got what they needed. Did he ever lose her? He came close. And judging by these IMDb numbers, he got out when things were going well (while many questions remain unanswered).
Yellowstone fans prefer Taylor Sheridan offscreen
According to IMDb, the “worst” episode of “Yellowstone” was Season 5, Episode 13, “Give the World Away.” This was the episode in which the character Sheridan wrote for himself, Travis Wheatley, stole the spotlight and became the handsome, hard-partying savior of the Dutton family. And during /Film’s Kieran Fisher disparaged Sheridan’s masturbating spectaclethe episode still gets a respectable seven out of ten on IMDb. (There are Best Picture winners with lower ratings.)
What’s wrong with “Give the World Away”? According to some discerning “Yellowstone” viewers, it serves as a ridiculous ego stroke for Sheridan. Wheatley is occasionally photographed shirtless and in one amusing instance is seen playing strip poker with supermodels (including frequent cover girl Bella Hadid). He also gets to show off his bull riding skills, which even impresses the tough Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly).
Going forward, Sheridan might do well to understand that even his most die-hard fans would prefer him to stick to writing. Is it encouraging for people of a certain age to see 54-year-old Sheridan frolicking like a 20-something stallion? It has its charm, yes. But those of us who don’t have access to a home gym and certain beauty procedures want the hot screenwriter who gave us “Sicario” and “Hell or High Water” to go back to the brutal basics because that’s more than that ridiculous.
