The United Arab Emirates is promising not to arm Sudanese paramilitaries, U.S. lawmakers say

The United Arab Emirates, under fire in Washington, has promised the United States not to arm paramilitaries in Sudan’s brutal civil war, U.S. lawmakers said Thursday. The assurance came as the United States announced $200 million in new aid to Sudan, one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters that has killed tens of thousands in fighting since April 2023. We speak with Shayna Lewis, a Sudan specialist and senior advisor at PAEMA, a US-based organization that works with vulnerable communities in Sudan and elsewhere.
