Michael Oliver, fresh from his controversial performance on Saturday, was appointed referee of the Champions League game of Barcelona on Wednesday evening.
The Newcastle officer sent Arsenal’s Myles Lewis Skelly in Molineux to make a challenge for Wolves’s foreign defender Matt Doherty when he drove away from his own penalty area.
Oliver thought the challenge of being a “serious foul” and he was supported by Var Darren England, although the challenge deserves a yellow card in the worst case.

Areteta reddated after the game
Arsenal boss Mikel Areta was “angry” after the game and expects the red card to be overturned without the association having to appeal.
In the meantime, the BBC expert Alan Shearer described the decision “one of the worst that I have seen for a long time”.

It was: “We are horrified by the threats and the abuse that are directed against Michael Oliver after the Wolverhampton Wanderers against Arsenal game. No civil servant should be exposed to any form of abuse, let alone the hideous attacks that Michael and his family aim for in the past 24 hours.
“The police are aware of and a number of investigations have started. We support Michael and all those affected and are determined to tackle this unacceptable behavior. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a play official has had to deal with threats recently. “
Oliver on the way to Catalonia
