Rabat – The Astronomical Observatory of the Oukaimen, which is connected to Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, has announced an extraordinary discovery in the Cetus constellation.

The newly found object, a weak star residue, was referred to as “Skyla” and observed at an unusual height in the galactic level. said The observatory in a press release.

Cetus, one of the largest constellations in the sky, is located in the southern hemisphere. It is most visible in the autumn and winter months. The statement stated that the discovered object does not spend a strong radiation in X-ray or radio waves. Instead, it was detected by fine traces of hydrogen alpha emissions that were recorded with narrow, deep images.

The remains “Skyla” encompass an area of about 1.5 degrees across the sky and remained undetected for decades due to their weak nature and its location in a quiet region in the interstellar area.

Director of the Ouukaimed claimexplained that the observation began six months ago and that the object was subjected to a thorough examination and study.

The goal, he said, was to understand the physical models that regulate star development and their life cycles. He added that this discovery illuminates the explosive end of stars and provides valuable scientific data about the timing and the process of star death.

The imaging alone lasted 29 nights, and the data collected was crucial for this scientific announcement. Benkhaldoun pointed out that observation of such weak star residues in astronomy is a challenge and requires considerable efforts and precise scientific cooperation.

The observatory typically records one or two discoveries of this size per year, and its importance is often evaluated on the basis of its publication in leading scientific magazines.

Benkhaldoun came to the conclusion that these discoveries expand human knowledge about space and improve Morocco’s scientific reputation.
