Rabat – The National Coalition of the Morocco for the Arabic language has expressed strong opposition to efforts that move Arabic in public institutions and rooms.
It pushed The Moroccan government, to enforce the constitutional regulations and legal decrees, confirm Arabic as an official language in state institutions as well as in economic, technical, media and education areas.
In an explanation at the end of his seventh national conference on the Arabic language, which was held in Rabat on February 21 to 22, the coalition condemned the continued use of French as a language of instruction in Moroccan schools.
The coalition also expressed its strong resistance to all attempts to marginalize or undermine Arabic in institutions, public spaces and institutions, and asked civil society to play a more active role in the defense of Arabic.
It condemned what it described as an aggressive campaigns in order to undermine the existence of the language, and confirmed the need to combat the expansion of French in the school system.
Although Arabic and Amazigh in Morocco have an official status, French continues to dominate important areas such as education and administration.
Many public and private schools use French for education, especially in scientific and technical subjects. The language remains the predominant medium of official documents, corporate communication and university formation.
Now English picked up Temp in recent years, but French retains number one in Morocco’s linguistic landscape.
As a result, the coalition underlined that the obligation to improve the visibility of the Arabic does not fall on a single company, but must be shared in the entire institutions and society in general.
