Rabat – Moroccos Cinema Center (CCM) has announced that it will provide financial support throughout the country worth 6.77 million to 29 film festivals and events.
The decision was made after the support committee checked 31 applications and listened to presentations of festival organizers on April 3 and 4.
The CCM published an explanation in which the decisions of the support committee are explained, which is led by Khadija Alami El Alaoui and comprises a group of cinema professionals.
The largest grants included MAD 1.3 million, which were assigned to the 30th Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival, and 1.2 million for the 25th Khouribga African Mad 1.2 million cinema Festival. The International Animation Film Festival in Meknes also received strong support with a scholarship of MAD 600,000.
Further remarkable grants are MAD 700,000 dirhams for the 13th Dakhla International Film Festival, MAD 300,000 for the 4. Casablanca Independent Cinema Festival, MAD 250,000 for the 6th Casablanca Arab Film Festival and MAD 200,000 for the 13th Assa National Desert Film Festival.
Smaller festivals also received support, such as the 9th National Film Festival “Camera Kids” in Rabat (MAD 120,000). In addition, MAD 100,000 was assigned for the Al Hceima International Film Festival as well as for the 10th Oujda Amateur Film Festival as well as MAD 80,000 for the 11th Ras Sbareil International Film Festival in Tanger and the 7th TafoUkt Amazigh Cinema Festival in Tifrouine.
Other smaller events received between 50,000 and 60,000 funds.
These festivals are organized by various cultural and cinema associations in Moroccan cities, including Casablanca, Tangier, Tetouan, Fez, Oujda and more. The support aims to promote cultural diversity, support the local cinema and promote education through film.
The government has sworn continuously to support the country’s growing cinema sector and to help regional festivals.
