The Magpies’ winning streak ends as Kluivert stuns St James’ Park with a hat-trick
Bournemouth ended Newcastle’s nine-game winning streak with a brilliant away performance and a 4-1 win at St James’ Park.
Justin Kluivert scored a superb hat-trick before Milos Kerkez added a fourth as Andoni Iraola’s men recovered from Bruno Guimaraes’ first-half equalizer and the visitors emerged as deserved winners.
With the win, the Cherries extended their unbeaten streak to eleven games across all competitions and climbed to sixth place in the table, at least for the time being.
Newcastle vs Bournemouth as it happened
Newcastle were the best team in the Premier League before kick-off, but Bournemouth caught the hosts napping early on and created a number of chances that went over the goal in the early stages.
They got the goal their pressure deserved after six minutes when Antoine Semenyo found space on the left before Kluivert slotted neatly into the bottom corner.

The Magpies seemed to be struggling to get going but were able to equalize in the simplest form possible when Bruno Guimaraes scored a free header from Lewis Hall’s corner to equalize in what was unsurprisingly an entertaining start.

Newcastle appeared to have the momentum but were caught again when Semenyo again released Kluivert, who fired another finish past Martin Dubravka, restoring Bournemouth’s lead.

Bournemouth beat Newcastle
The frantic nature of the game continued into the second half, although Bournemouth continued to pose the greater threat in front of goal as the Toon struggled to find the lead they previously enjoyed.
Bournemouth felt they had deserved to take a 3-1 lead through Dango Ouattara, but after a VAR review the decision was rightly disallowed as the ball went out of play in the build-up.
Newcastle were lucky again when David Brooks’ touch from Semenyo’s cross deflected off Tino Livramento and bounced off the post.
A thrilling finish followed before Bouremouth could begin to celebrate a deserved victory as Kluivert brilliantly completed his hat-trick with a long-range shot that left Dubravka on the ground.

Anthony Gordon was denied the chance of a surprise late comeback when his shot was blocked on the line.
But it really was Bournemouth’s day as Kerkez ran clear at the other end before throwing a stepover and ice-coldly hitting the net.
