Merriam-Webster’s Word of the year 2024 is “polarization,” which is defined as “division into two sharply different opposites.” (The word displaced “brain rot,” but one wonders if the dictionary staff did.)

In fact, it’s been the word of the year since at least 2016, when President-elect Trump won for the first time and the left went crazy.

The left wing staff in dictionary land couldn’t bear to be outdone and started playing word games almost immediately after their victory. Even NPR noticed in 2017 that “Merriam-Webster Dictionary has been trolling Trump on Twitter for months.”

The company’s wordplay is part of a larger left-wing strategy to either invent new words or redefine existing terms to fit the liberal narrative. We’ve seen examples over and over again in recent years – “birthing person”, “Latinx” and most recently “womyn”.

CNN host wonders if Democrats should abandon ‘Latinx’ framing

The Scripps National Spelling Bee, D-Embarrassment, published a third grade word list for its 100th anniversary contest. And “womyn” is included as an acceptable alternative spelling for the actual word “women.” According to a Scripps spokesperson, “Of course, all words used in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program come from our official dictionary, the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary.”

Consider me shocked. (Adjective: affected by a sudden mental or emotional disturbance.) But that’s actually just propaganda. Even the left-wing Urban Dictionary describes the word “womyn” as “a term used by feminists who believe that the word ‘man’ in the word ‘woman’ makes women a subgroup of men.” (Scripps approved also “Bazar” as an alternative to Bazaar, which is just bizarre.)

Even more controversial than this spin is the attempt to erase mothers from our language to appease transgender extremists. In July 2022, the NEA, the unstable union of teachers who hate America, considered changing the language. they wanted Avoid using the word “mother” and swap it for “birthing parent.” “Father” should change to “non-birthing parent.” That’s because real parents – both mothers and fathers – don’t like what NEA wants to do to their children.

This plan failed. Even the NEA must have realized how crazy this was.

A month later, The AP Stylebook has decided that “phrases such as ‘pregnant people’ or ‘people seeking abortions’ are acceptable if you want to include people who have had these experiences but do not identify as women.”

This and all sorts of other craziness was picked up by the so-called sciences. Everything from “breast feeding” instead of “breastfeeding” to asking staff to “avoid unnecessarily gendered language” is available on the NIH website. Employees should use “anyone or all instead of men and women, and distinguished guests or people instead of ladies and gentlemen.” NIH is trying to put those words in someone else’s mouth, providing instructions on its website with a prominent link to the AP Stylebook.

The liberal media has defended or endorsed this nonsense. And I still do. CNN wrote: “There is a case for saying ‘pregnant people’ and other gendered terms.” The gendered term mentioned in the story was “penis owners.” (This one requires you to write your own jokes. I wrote a few and deleted them because I like being employed.) The network published this article in May 2024.

THREE BIG WAYS THE LIBERAL NEWS MEDIA LOST THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. AND IT DESERVES

You’d think the left would be tired of such empty words, but that’s simply not the case. Look at the ridiculous word Latinx. Liberals created it because they hate that Spanish has male and female gendered words. That’s why they wanted a gender-neutral term for people who come from Spain or Latin America. Yet despite years of effort, Pew Research reported in September that “4% of Latino adults say they have used Latinx to describe themselves, down slightly from the 3% who said the same in 2019.” changed.”

Instead of giving up, leftists simply try a new pseudo-term. In April, Axios wrote, “Latin is the new Latinx.” That’s like saying Vice President Kamala Harris is the new Michael Dukakis. It’s not particularly positive for either side of the comparison.

The article states: “‘Latine,’ a gender-neutral way of describing or referring to people of Latin American descent, is becoming increasingly popular on college campuses, in museums, and among researchers and the media.”

None of the groups mentioned are actually of Hispanic or Latino descent. Every single one of them is just another elitist, left-wing ivory tower. So who do they cite as experts? Monica Trasandes, “Director of Spanish Language Media and Advocacy at GLAAD” – The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Talk about not being able to read a room, an election, or even a dictionary.

And ironically, the article itself appeared in Axios Latino. Not Axios Latine or Latinx.

The left’s urge to use nasty words makes me think of how wonderfully wordy Susie Dent could describe it. She calls herself “That Woman in the Dictionary Corner” and regularly posts obscure terms from centuries past. One of her August words of the day was: “’Podsnappian’ (from Charles Dickens): narrow-minded, complacent, and convinced that everyone else should see things the same way you do.”

That sounds like the last word to me. It aptly describes the grammar rackets on the left.
