The Houthis say at least nine people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Yemen Houthis news

In response to the Houthi rocket, the Israeli military attacked power plants, a port and an oil facility in Hodeida and Sanaa.

A series of intense Israeli airstrikes rocked the Yemeni capital and a port city, killing at least nine people, according to reports from Houthi-controlled media.

The Israeli military said it struck “military targets” of Houthi fighters “in the western coastal strip and deep in Yemen” on Thursday morning after intercepting a missile fired by the group at Israel.

“The attacked targets are used by the Houthi forces for their military operations,” the military said in a statement.

Al Masirah TV, the main news outlet for Yemen’s Houthi movement, which controls much of the country, said seven people were killed in an Israeli attack on the port of Salif and the rest in two attacks on the Ras Issa oil facility; both are in the western province of Hodeidah.

“The enemy launched four aggressive attacks on the port… and two attacks on an oil facility,” Al Masirah reported.

The series of “aggressive raids” also targeted two key power plants south and north of the capital Sanaa, it said.

Yemeni news agency SABA also reported that four raids targeted Hodeidah, two of them on the Ras Isa oil facility, killing and injuring some of its employees.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said his forces carried out attacks on Houthi military sites, including ports and energy infrastructure in Sanaa, after a Houthi missile was fired at Israel overnight – which was destroyed – and repeated attacks have taken place over the past 14 months .

Speaking to Al Jazeera from Sanaa, Hussain al-Bukhaiti, a pro-Houthi political commentator, said Israel carried out about 13 attacks in Yemen on Thursday.

“These attacks were a retaliation by Israel against Yemen because Yemen carries out weekly attacks either on Israel directly or on the Red Sea on any ship that actually supports the Zionist State of Israel,” he said.

Houthi fighters in Yemen have carried out months of attacks on Israel and Israel-affiliated vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This is ostensibly a campaign of solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s war in Gaza, which has killed more than 45,000 people – the majority of whom are women and children.

“(The Houthi attacks) may have had no impact on Gaza and forced Israel to end its attacks and the blockade against Gaza, but of course we know that Yemeni attacks against Israel as well as the blockade in the Red Sea have led to the closure of the “The port of Eilat, south of occupied Palestine, as well as increased costs in Israel as Israeli-linked ships can no longer use the Red Sea and have to circumnavigate Africa,” al-Bukhaiti said.

“This is actually doing some damage to the economy of the Zionist state. Yemen has clearly stated that it will not stop these attacks unless the Israeli regime stops its attacks against Gaza, lifts the blockade and withdraws from Gaza,” he said, adding that even attacks on civilians in Yemen, the Houthis would not deter their support for Palestinians.
