Rabat – A French government employee was charged in Paris
The employee who works in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Financing is accused of saying goodbye to details about Algerian citizens and political opponents who live in France in Algeria’s secret services. He was official charged in December and is now under judicial supervision.
The suspect is accused of having shared confidential information with an Algerian intelligence officer who works with diplomatic coverage at the Algeria Consulate in Crétung. The investigators believe that he has provided personal details and asylum questions information from Algerian citizens, including well -known opposition figures.
The French authorities accused him of spy crimes, including “intelligence with foreign power” and “information about the basic interests of the nation”.
According to reports, the suspect has received some information about a social worker in the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII). The investigators say that the two have a close personal relationship and he supposedly asked them to access a confidential database. The social worker was charged in February for violation of professional confidentiality, but refused compensation.
The authorities suspect that the Algerian consulate officer worked as a secret service day and had requested information about several people. Among them were political opponents such as Amir Boukhors and Mohamed Larbi Zitout, both of whom were looking for terrorism under international arrests, as well as the Influencer Chawki Benzehra.
The investigation also showed that some of these people had become victims of threats, violence or even kidnapping attempts, said a “Source near the investigation” AFP.
The case first became aware of the France domestic intelligence agency (DGSI) in June 2024. In November, the case was assigned to two researched judges who continue their investigation into espionage and security violations. The alleged Algerian intelligence agent was not officially charged at the time.
The lawyer, who represented the accused French employee, said AFP said that his client was a victim of threats and manipulations by foreign power.
