The former military chief of the Syrian rebels wants to disband the armed wing

The military chief of Syria’s victorious Islamist group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, said on Tuesday the group would be “the first” to disband its armed wing and integrate into the armed forces. Earlier on Monday, Syrian rebel leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, better known by his nom de guerre Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, called for the lifting of international sanctions in an exclusive interview with a group of foreign journalists including FRANCE 24’s Wassim Nasr.
