The stylus-based messaging app Pictochat from Nintendo DS was not the first place where I made myself immediately (that would be my friend’s Aim account), but it was absolutely the least overwhelming and pleasant place where it happened. Picochat looks like a version of Pictochat, which was pressed into the lower third of her iPhone with alphanumeric and emoji keyboards, and controls the line weight of its drawings. It would not be Pictochat without the ability to draw and write with a pen. Therefore, picochat also goes the extra -healing and shows a pen on the screen when you scribble with your finger.
Nintendo debut Pictochat in addition to the original Nintendo DS in 2004 as a rather curiosity than a piece in messaging dominance. The app asked both messengers to connect their handhelds via the same Wi-Fi network, which of course restricted its reach as a communication instrument. Nintendo recorded the software in 2006 and 2009 in the DS Lite and the DSI, and 3DS optional swapnote app was seen as a kind of spiritual successor when it came out in 2011.
Picochat cannot fully reproduce the small, personal feeling of Pictochat, while they are strapped to imessage, but if they were able to edit their DS days, it is a rather great hit by nostalgia.
