The craft sector: 140 MMDH sales and 7% of national GDP


The Moroccan craft sector has achieved annual sales, which is estimated at 140 billion dirhams (MMDH) and bears 7% to the national gross domestic product (GDP), as can be seen from the data presented at a session in FEZ. This meeting under the chair of the Foreign Minister for Crafts, Lahcen Saadi, brought together the various players in the industry to discuss his achievements and prospects.

Of these 140 MMDH, 96.3 billion comes from production craft, while 43.7 billion are generated by service trade. The sector comprises 275,000 handicraft units and 2,063 companies that work across the country. In 2024, the exports of craft products reached 1.11 billion dirham, which rose to an increase of 3% compared to 2023.

In the Fès-Meknès region, craftsmanship corresponds to 16% of the national production units, with more than 144,000 craftsmen working in the artistic and productive sectors. The regional turnover is almost 10.6 billion dirhams, which corresponds to about 11% of national sales.

The exports of craft products from the region reached 143 million dirham, and 641 craftsmen from the region have received quality labels that correspond to 25% of the national total. At the same time, the State Secretary attended several in the works, in particular craft complexes and training centers, whereby the efforts to improve the working conditions were emphasized.
