Upcycled patchwork bag from Lo & Sons for $66: This is probably what you imagine when you think of a tote bag: it has one large compartment with two smaller interior pockets and doesn’t close with snaps or a zipper. Still, it comfortably holds a laptop, books, and everyday accessories, so it can be used as a work bag or for a night out. Fun fact: It consists of returned and damaged Lo & Sons bags.
Lo & Sons Catalina Supreme Tote for $135: Lo & Sons is one of our favorite brands, and previous reviewer Medea Giordano says this travel bag is great for weekend trips. It is spacious and has a bottom compartment for a pair of shoes. Don’t need a separate compartment? Simply unzip the bottom of the main compartment to create a larger space. The Catalina Supreme is made from a durable recycled material that retains its shape even when empty. However, for what it is, the high price is hard to justify.
Bellroy Tokyo Tote for $129: This is the runner-up of our top picks from Moment. It is also equipped with pockets, with a soft sleeve for a 13-inch laptop, two 5-inch pockets for a phone, wallet, cables or small notebook, and larger “pop” pockets at either end to accommodate Offer for a water bottle, umbrella or shoes. It consists of recycled plastic bottlesand its straps have a nice rubbery grip to help it stay on your shoulders.
Lux and Nyx Origami Tote for $288: The Origami tote bag is stunning, with a design that can be carried from work and the gym to dinner or to the airport. There’s a padded laptop compartment, two interior side pockets that can hold mini umbrellas or even a flat shoe, a small zippered pocket in the V-shaped exterior compartment that holds a phone, and a luggage pass-through on the other side. There are two versions, one made of neoprene and one made of satin, but neither biodegradable.
Fjallraven Kånken Totepack for $100: We Love The Kånken backpack. His totepack is essentially the same bag, but converts from a tote bag to a backpack. The downside is its size, with just a 13-inch laptop pocket and two side pockets for water bottles or a small umbrella – but they’re tight, so don’t expect to fit a 1-liter Nalgene.
United by Blue Convertible Carryall for $118: That is our favorite recycled bag and a solid, water-resistant laptop bag that you can carry on one shoulder as a tote bag or unzip the hidden straps and wear as a backpack. According to former reviewer Medea Giordano, it’s great for camping trips and outdoor getaways. Key features include a padded laptop compartment, internal organization pockets and two side pockets with expandable straps.
Dagne Dover Petra convertible bag for $285: The Petra is made from recycled polyester and plastic bottles. It is durable and gigantic– it fits a 16-inch laptop and is almost 17 inches tall. It’s probably too big for an everyday bag. But the hardware is made of sturdy metal and the laptop compartment is padded. This is also a good diaper bag for parents.
