The air fryer has provided us all with rapid convection heating at affordable prices and unparalleled reheating of leftover fried foods. What more could a girl ask for? Compared to a microwave or stand mixer, it’s an appliance I haven’t lived with for long, but I can’t imagine living without it now. Whether it’s your first time or your 500th time using an air fryer, you’ll love these foolproof meals. Here are some of my favorite air fryer recipes so far.

Simple mushroom chips

Air fryers bring speed, ease and efficiency to our kitchens and there is no recipe that does this cooking appliance more credit than these mushroom chips. It’s a two-ingredient recipe that requires minimal prep and rewards you with a savory, crunchy snack. These mushroom chips can be eaten plain or as a crunchy topping for soups, salads or casseroles. They are also naturally gluten-free and vegan.

Air-fried pierogi

There are few things more filling than a soft pasta pocket full of potatoes, meat or vegetables. But a crispyA pasta bag with a bowl might be just the thing. Meatball shots

These cheese-filled meat bites are quick and easy to make using packaged meatballs from the supermarket. I particularly like them as a Super Bowl snack, but let’s be honest: sometimes there’s no sport on the agenda, but the craving for hearty food still arises. This is the three-ingredient snack for you. Simply hollow out the center of a meatball and stuff it before crisping the edges in your air fryer. Read here for the full recipe.

Stuffed mushrooms

Stuffed mushrooms are easily one of my top three favorite snacks. They are filling, bursting with umami and can be prepared extremely quickly in the hot air fryer. My recipe Uses sausage, spices and some cream cheese to bind everything together, but you can easily replace the meat with another filling of your choice. Once they’re in the air fryer, they only take about 10 minutes to cook – a fraction of the time they would take in a traditional oven.

Scotch eggs

Scotch eggs are like breakfast balls. A hard-boiled egg is wrapped in a thick sausage casing, breaded and deep-fried. This air fryer recipe breaks with tradition, but only just. Instead of cooking the protein ball in a deep fryer, a light drizzle of oil and the whipping winds of the air fryer do the cooking. The outside becomes crispy while the sausage stays juicy and the egg doesn’t overcook.

Juicy steak bites from the hot air fryer

One of my favorite snacks when I’m on a high-protein diet (and when I can afford it) is a bowl of steak bites. Using the hot air fryer, these “popcorn” steak bites can be prepared quickly, but be careful, with an average recipe they will be overcooked within minutes. If you’re looking for a crispy crust for your chicken sticks, starch is your best friend. Turns out dried potato flakes are loaded with the stuff. They are easy to process and are even suitable for a delicious gluten-free “breading”. Stuffed Shishito Pepper Poppers

The air fryer prepares perfectly fried, blistered vegetables in a fraction of the time it takes a traditional oven, and that means you can have it these shishito pepper poppers ready in less than 10 minutes. Since you can eat the seeds and ribs in a shishito, you don’t need to do much more prep than splitting them and slathering in some cheese mixture.

Frico gratin potato squares

Frico is when cheese is cooked to a crisp with little moisture, literally, and it’s one of the most divine cheese experiences you can have. Mac and Cheese Bites

Remember how I said cooked cheese gets crispy? Well, leftover macaroni and cheese did the frico prep for you. All you have to do is slice it and pop it into the air fryer. Make bite-sized or oblong squares Macaroni and cheese sticks for a simple afternoon snack. A quick blast of hot air in the convection oven will crisp and crisp the edges.

A simple banana dessert

Part of what appeals to me about cooking in the air fryer is that it invites simplicity. You can’t stick a spatula in and stir while cooking, add a splash of this or that halfway through cooking, or cover it with a lid to let it simmer. It is a device where the heat speaks and anything you put into it will either thrive or fail in the hot winds. A banana absolutely thrives. You know bacon-wrapped bananas work well in the air fryer, but don’t forget dessert. This recipe tells you the best way to air fry a banana with peel and just a few sweet toppings.
