The 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal and Spain, will be “a huge celebration of humanity,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, praising Morocco’s football heritage and its passionate fan base.
“People who go to Morocco are welcomed like nowhere else. “It will be a great celebration of humanity, football and togetherness,” emphasized Infantino in an interview published by FIFA following the extraordinary congress that officially confirmed the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 tournaments.
Infantino recalled that Moroccan fans made a big impression at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 when their team became the first team from Africa to reach the semi-finals. “Everyone knows the fans of Morocco. They are absolutely unique and fantastic,” he said.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup being played in Canada, Mexico and the United States, five confederations – and ten FIFA member associations – have the chance to host the tournament between 2026 and 2034.
“We go from North America in 2026 to South America in 2030, then to Africa and Europe still in 2030, and then to Asia in 2034,” the FIFA president continued. This is “a great message of unity, a message of strength, a message of solidity from FIFA and the football community; “This is history at its best and there will certainly be some pages of this beautiful chapter in the history books for FIFA, football, unity and humanity,” he emphasized.
Morocco, Portugal and Spain were officially named host countries for the 2030 FIFA World Cup by the FIFA Congress, which met in an extraordinary session via video conference on Wednesday.
During the same session, chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino from Zurich, members of Congress also approved awarding the three anniversary games to Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, while Saudi Arabia was confirmed as the host country for the 2034 World Cup.
