Troops from Thailand and Cambodia In the early Thursday, in a controversial part of her border, I came together early Thursday, with both sides accused of each other to have fired the first shot.
The Thai military said that Cambodian soldiers opened the fire near the Khmer Temple Ta Muen Thom, where the tensions have been high in the past few weeks.
However, the Cambodia Department of Defense said that his soldiers reacted in self -defense after Thai troops fired the first shots.
Cambodia had sent a surveillance drone to the area before using heavily armed troops, said the Thai military and added that at least two Thai soldiers were injured.
A spokeswoman for the Cambodian Department of Defense, Maly Sochscheata, said her troops “had her right to defend her sovereignty and territorial integrity against the aggression of the Thai troops.
Soscheata said Thailand “violated the territorial integrity of Cambodia”.
Parts of two Cambodian provinces had been shot at by the Thai military, said former leader Hun Sen on Facebook and asked people not to panic.
“Cambodia has always kept a position to solve problems peacefully, but in this case we have no choice but to react with armed violence against armed aggression,” said Prime Minister Hun Manet on Facebook.
The reigning Prime Minister of Thailand, Phumham Wechayachai, said that his dispute with Cambodia remains “sensitive” and has to be addressed with care and in accordance with international law.
The collision on Thursday comes a day after Thailand called back his ambassador in Cambodia after a land mining explosion was injured along the border.
On Wednesday, Bangkok also said that it would drive away Cambodia’s ambassador.
The bilateral relationships between the two countries have been worst for more than a decade after armed clashes left a Cambodian soldier dead in May.
In the past two months, both countries have imposed tit-for-date restrictions and strengthened the presence of the troops along the border.
