Tetouan Police Foil drug smuggling attempt to confiscate 12,000 rivotril pills


Rabat – The Moroccan police thwarted a drug trade attempt on Friday morning after receiving precise secret services, which was made available by the General Directorate for Territorial Monitoring (DGSt).

Officials in Tetouan arrested two suspects aged 21 and 32 because of their alleged participation in a criminal network that transports drugs and illegal substances. The two suspects tried to smuggle 12,000 pills.

According to a security source, the operation took place in Tetouan, where the police caught the two suspects in a small car while they were owned by the illegal pills.

After a search of the vehicle, the police discovered 12,000 rivotril pills, a kind of controlled medication and a sum of money, which was assumed that they have a proceeds from their illegal activities.

The suspects are now under custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor.

The investigation also serves to uncover further details about the case and to identify other possible connections to this criminal network.

The operation is part of the ongoing efforts of Morocco to combat drug trafficking and maintain public security as well as international cooperation against regional threats such as terrorism and organized crimes.

The country at the beginning of this week assisted Spain with a large drug bust by contributing intelligence that led to confiscation of over two tons of cannabis.

The operation was carried out by the Spanish civil guard in Tenerife Island, where the authorities arrested six suspects. The medication was intercepted according to the precise intelligence, which was provided by the Morocco General Directorate of Surveillance.
