Misinformation And Scams are an unfortunate reality of the Internet in 2024. This “news” account could really be spreading falsehoods and lies, while the reach of “Google” is probably not from the company at all. You must always be vigilant when processing the information transmitted through your social media feeds. That’s why it’s helpful when apps and platforms take measures to protect users from untrustworthy sources.

Telegram has a new verification system

That seems to be the motivation behind it current updates from Telegram. The messaging platform has a verification system built into the service that allows companies and public figures to register on Telegram and receive a blue badge of honor. This way, when you see content from a well-known person or organization, you can be sure that the words shared actually came from that source. Many platforms (but not all) naturally offer this type of service. Even Google is I’m thinking about introducing badges for search.

But Telegram has a new addition to the way it performs verification: Once an organization is verified, it can apply as “”.external verifier“, which they can also use to verify other accounts and chats that they consider to be official. These verification badges are different from the blue checkmarks and instead look like blue emojis or icons. Each account or chat verified in this way will have a banner profile explaining which third party verified it and why.

I’m all for this type of verification process and hope it catches on. It places trust in accounts that have already demonstrated their authority over Telegram, and over time helps users quickly identify which accounts and chats are legitimate and which are best avoided. In the future, you may see a post from an account or chat, and since they don’t have this badge, you should think twice about what message they want to spread.

In addition to third-party verification, Telegram announced a number of other features and changes to the platform:

  • News search filter: When searching, you will now see an option in the Chats tab to sort your messages by All Chats, Private Chats, Group Chats, or Channels to make it easier for you to find the messages you want can find. I’m looking.

  • Folder names get custom emojis: If you subscribe to Premium, you can add custom emojis to the names of your chat folders. You can even replace the text that normally appears here with any emoji.

  • In-app QR code scanner: If you use the in-app camera on iOS or Android, you can also scan QR codes.

  • Collectible gifts: Telegram “Gifts“ are small works of art that you can share with friends and display on your profile. Now you can enhance a gift to make it a “collectible.” This adds a new look created by a Telegram artist, as well as a unique background, icon and number, allowing you to share collectibles with other users or, if you wish, auction them off as an NFT. There are currently 20 gifts available to upgrade with over 1,400 unique appearances.

  • Responses to service reports: Service messages are notifications you receive when someone joins a group, starts a video call, or sends you a gift. Telegram now lets you respond to these alerts, adding an entertaining layer to these previously informational messages.
