The Tangier Municipal Council, which gathered on Monday in an extraordinary meeting, approved several structural infrastructure projects as part of the preparations for international events.
The members of the Council thus approved the demolition of the R’Mel El Kbira market (Plaza Jdida) and the creation of a project that is integrated instead, including shops and parking spaces, as part of the strengthening of commercial infrastructure and improving the services. This future structure comprises 198 shops, 48 sales points of vegetables, fruit and fish, sanitary facilities and 5 service stores (a prayer room, restaurants and cafés) as well as a multi -stage parking space with more than 29,000 m2, which offers a parking space of 4441 spaces, including 14 places that are reserved for specific needs.
In the field of planning of the delimitation of public streets, including the country to exprude in connection with the support for development projects and the strengthening of urban feelings, the council has also approved other projects. The latter refers to the expansion and construction of new tracks and should reduce road reinforcement during peak times.
For transport, the Council has validated the update of a partnership agreement for the financing and implementation of the development and expansion project of the IBN Battouta of Tangier International Airport IBN in order to increase its capacity and to strengthen the city’s position as an international goal. An envelope of 3.27 billion DH was assigned to the financing and implementation of the extension project of this airport, which will increase its reception capacity to more than 7 million passengers per year.
The environmental component must not be exceeded. The Council therefore approved a partnership agreement with the Association of Friends of Animals, which is supposed to contribute to the implementation of the strategy in connection with the fight against the phenomenon of stray dogs and cats in Tanger. The municipality of Tangier will mobilize an envelope of around 500,000 dH to develop a uniform strategy to combat migrating dogs and cats through a new approach that aims to vaccinate and sterilize them.
