At least five people were injured and a suspect was killed after a man drove his pickup truck through the glass doors of a JC Penney Mall in Texassaid the police.
The incident occurred Saturday evening, a few days before Christmas, at the Killeen Mall in Killeen, Texas – about 70 miles north of Austin.
In a news conference Saturday evening, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said the truck drove “several hundred yards” through the entrance of the JC Penney store.
Terrified shoppers were injured when the driver “actively ran over people” and a fifth was killed to the hospital on his own, said Sergeant Washko. The injured ranged in age from 6 to 75, he said.

The incident continued as the authorities noted that the suspect, who was not identified, was seen “driving erratically” and police attempted to stop him.
Instead of stopping, the driver exited the highway, drove into the Killeen Mall parking lot and rammed his car through the doors of the JC Penney, Sergeant Washko said.
The man driving the truck was fatally shot by police officers, authorities said.

“Officers from DPS, Killeen Police Department and three other agencies were present involved in gunfire to eliminate this threat to the community,” said Sergeant Washko.
