Storm disturbing the journey between Spain and Morocco


Rabat – strong winds and heavy rain forced the authorities to cancel the passenger ferry services between the Spanish port of Tarifa and Tangier today.

The port authority of Algeciras Bay announced that unwanted weather conditions in the Gibraltar street caused the disorders.

Officials canceled all planned departures from Tarifa with the exception of the sail from 8 p.m., which remains dependent on the weather conditions.

In the meantime, services from Algeciras to Tangier Med had delays, although the authorities have not yet canceled sails.

Spain’s National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has still published a yellow alarm for the Gibraltar street and several areas in the province of Cadiz.

The agency warned the residents to expect up to 40 liters per square meter at some locations.

The coast along the street remains under a weather consultation for high waves. Aemet reported that Southwest wind gusts have reached 80 km/h and waves up to four meters high.

The disturbance marks the latest in a number of weather -related transport challenges in the region this season.

The conditions for the serious weather also had the travel plans between Algeciras and Tangier, which also caused a full block of the route last Tuesday.

The maritime authorities continue to monitor the conditions exactly because thousands of travelers are exposed to uncertainties about their trips between the two countries.
