Stoke sack manager Pelach after three months in charge

Stoke City have sacked coach Narcis Pelach after just 19 games in charge.

The former Norwich manager was appointed in September, aged 36, but won just three of his 18 league games in the Championship.

After a 2-0 home defeat to Leeds on Boxing Day, his team are 19th in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Sporting director Jon Walters told the club’s official website: “Narcis is a talented coach with great potential, he works tirelessly hard and I have no doubt he will continue to achieve success in the future.”

“However, given the results and performances of the last few weeks, we have to accept in hindsight that he has proven not to be the right fit for this club at this point in time.

“I take full responsibility for this and am firmly convinced that we will now make the right decision to move forward.

“Every decision we make is based on our love for Stoke City and our absolute determination to help the club succeed.”

The Potters, who have lost five of their last six league games and drawn the other, are yet to announce the composition of their coaching team for Sunday’s game against leaders Sunderland.
