Sony is reportedly canceling two more live service games, one of which is a God of War title

At least according to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony appears to be making a hard shift in its live service ambitions. The report it says that PlayStation has now canceled two more live service titles, one from Bend Studio and one from Bluepoint Games. While there’s no official word on what games they were – neither company had announced that a game was in development – Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claims that one of the titles is set in the God of War universe .

The gaming company announced shortly after acquiring Bungie that it planned to launch about a dozen live service titles before the end of fiscal 2025. This was fraught with difficulty, however, as Bungie itself experienced turmoil behind the scenes, with several major live games either failing to launch or having mediocre performances upon release. The most notorious of these is Concord 2024that started within two weeks and then died. While Helldivers 2 proved to be a success, it turned out to be an anomaly in PlayStation’s ambitions.

Sony has acquired Bluepoint in 2021, having previously worked with the studio on developing remakes and remasters, including Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. An IGN report from the time claimed that Bluepoint’s next title would be an original title. As for Bend, former Days Gone director Jeff Ross (Bend Studio released Days Gone) claimed this Sony had invested $250 million on his next project.

According to the report, Sony has not closed either studio and has no plans to lay off staff. A memo to employees said the company is “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine next projects and do everything possible to ensure that the business impact is minimal.”
