The news that Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, has lived and experienced living in a senior living facility a “very rapid” decline sparked an outcry across the political spectrum on social media this week.

Former Education Ministry press secretary Angela Morabito said Granger’s staff may be “complicit.”
“WOW: Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), who hasn’t voted on a bill in six months, is secretly living in a nursing home. Records show it has 25 employees. If any of them knew – and it would be hard not to know – they are complicit,” Morabito shared on X.
Former Texas State Representative Jonathan Stickland also commented on Granger and expressed that this was the case is aware of her memory problems.

Granger’s absence was first reported by the Dallas Express on Friday, quoting a voter from her district who said she lives in a memory care facility in Texas.

Axios political reporter Hans Nichols admitted to missing the Granger story due to limited journalist resources on CNN Monday.

Granger, 81, did not seek re-election and will retire at the end of that term Congress period next month. She has been largely absent from the Capitol in recent months, having last cast a vote on July 24. This year she was absent for over 54% of the votes. She also resigned from her position on the House Budget Committee, which drafts bills to finance the federal government.
