Rabat – Moroccan Social Media activists demand a wide campaign to boycott several goods, including chicken, eggs, meat and vegetables.
Inspired by the recent fish market boycott, the initiative aims to force prices for the average citizen to an affordable level.
The campaign which has won Significant traction on social media platforms requires collective measures to reduce egg prices to a dirham and chicken meat to less than $ 14 (USD) per kilogram.
Activists behind the movement believe that these objects have become unaffordable for many Moroccan families, especially if they accept the holy month of Ramadan when food consumption traditionally increases.
This recent consumer protest follows In the footsteps of a much successful initiative by a young man from Marrakech called Abdelilah.
His initiative revealed what many consider dishonest manipulation of fish prices and raised questions about the price overview of others in the country.
All Moroccans call for social media activists to seriously and effectively participate in the boycott. They believe that commitment and patience, the same strategy that worked for the position of fish prices, can be applied to other essential consumer goods in which unjustified price increases were recorded.
The time of the campaign is particularly important because Moroccan families traditionally have to deal with increased food costs during the Ramadan.
Activists hope that by using consumer performance you can lead permanent changes in an unfair market price system for basic food needs.
When the holy month of Ramadan started today, Morocco has activated The national hotline number “5757” for consumer complaints and observations in the holy month.
The initiative is a reaction to concerns regarding food prices, in particular to essential objects that are prominently equipped across the country to Iftar tables.
