Shein app returns to India via Reliance Deal

The Chinese fast fashion retailer Shein, Shein, restarted in India through a partnership with reliance retail in India, almost five years after it was banned in the middle of diplomatic tensions between new delhi and Beijing.

The new Shein India Fast Fashion app, which was developed and created by the billionaire Mukesh Ambanis Reliance Retail, is a significant return in one of the largest retail markets of Asia. The revival of the app is under strict conditions that give trust Complete control over operations and data.

As part of the partnership structure recently published by the Indian Ministry of Commerce, Shein will only act as a technology partner, with reliance maintaining full ownership of the platform through its subsidiary. All customer data must be saved in India at the agreement, with Shein not having access rights.

Shein initially offers delivery in selected cities such as Neu -Delhi and Mumbai. The products include dresses of 350 rupees (4 US dollars), with all articles that were designed and manufactured in India by local manufacturers.

The deal represents a rare exception of India’s ban on Chinese apps, which has been affected by over 300 platforms since 2020. In order to secure approval, Shein approved unprecedented surveillance measures, including regular security audits through state -approved cyber security companies.

Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal recently said that the approval process has a comprehensive review of several ministries, including IT and home affairs, for a comprehensive review of the services. The arrangement aims to increase the textile manufacturing sector of India and at the same time maintain strict data sovereignty.

For reliance, the partnership marks a departure from its traditional strategy to include brands in their flagship -ajio -mode -app.
