Outgoing Georgian President Salomé Zourabichvili became the country’s first female president in 2018 with the support of the ruling Georgian Dream party. Now, six years later, as the ruling party becomes increasingly pro-Russian despite its promises of further European integration, the pro-EU Zurabishvili is being forced out of the presidential palace to make way for Mikheil Kavelashvili, a party loyalist.
