Salah “focused on the team” despite growing uncertainty over Liverpool’s future

Mohamed Salah insists his sole focus is on Liverpool winning the Premier League title, although his future at Anfield remains uncertain.

Salah scored and assisted two more goals in Sunday’s 5-0 win over West Ham as Arne Slot’s side ran riot at the London Stadium.

Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and substitute Diogo Jota also scored goals as Liverpool ended the year in pole position for the league title.

But one of the main topics of conversation at Anfield in recent weeks has been the future of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and captain Virgil van Dijk, all of whom are out of contract this summer.

All three have yet to agree to an extension, but the Reds’ top scorer this season says his main priority is ensuring his team wins some titles this season.

“The only thing I think about is that I want Liverpool to win the league,” Salah told Sky Sports after the game. “I just want to be a part of it.

“That’s the only thing I’ve focused on since the start of the season. That’s why I’ll do my best to help the team win the cup.

“We are on the right track, but of course there are a few other teams trying to catch up with us. We just have to stay focused, work hard and get going again.”

Salah remained tight-lipped about the contract situation: “We are a long way from that. I don’t want to publish anything in the media.

“I’m focused on the team and hope we win the Premier League.”

Slot was also careful not to reveal anything to the press about off-field matters.

The Liverpool manager told Sky Sports: “People are talking about it even more (in January). Not only about these three (Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold), but also about other players, because it is a month in which players can also make a transfer.

“So next month will not just be about the three, but also about those we bring in and those who might leave too.”

However, Slot praised Alexander-Arnold as speculation grew that the 26-year-old wants to leave Liverpool in the summer, with Real Madrid seen as a likely destination.

“He (Alexander-Arnold) is playing really well. He scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough.

“So I don’t think I need to say much more about it. I’m very happy with Trent, just like I’m happy with Mo (Salah) and Virgil (van Dijk). So for me there is no difference.

“For the outside world, there may be something more happening in the media. But for now I’m happy with all three.

Liverpool are next in action when they host arch-rivals Manchester United on January 5.
