Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar break silence on BCCI’s 10-point guidelines; reveal the true mission of the ultimatum
After India’s consecutive series defeats against New Zealand And Australiaand a steady decline in the quality of cricket on the field, which began with a rare ODI series defeat against Sri Lankasome punitive measures were expected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) so that the situation of the players on the field can improve.
The cricket fraternity saw some action taken by BCCI recently with the release of a 10-point diktat for players that aims to streamline everything they do on and off the field; from cricket to the involvement of their respective families during overseas tours. Since its announcement, there have been numerous reactions to this 10-point mandate. However, the true nature of these new rules is only now being revealed.
What are BCCI’s 10-point guidelines?
The BCCI has introduced new guidelines aimed at strengthening team cohesion and discipline. Players must now take part in domestic cricket to remain eligible for national selection. Exceptions are only granted in exceptional cases. The board has also placed emphasis on team travel, allowing individual arrangements only if approved by the head coach and selection committee chair. Personal staff, including hairdressers or nannies, are excluded from tours unless approved by the BCCI. Players must remain with the team until the end of a series or tour to promote cohesion and continuity. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action such as suspensions or fines. A new family travel policy will allow players’ families to take part in tours lasting more than 45 days, with the BCCI covering the cost of shared accommodation. Additionally, players must adhere to baggage limits, attend full training sessions, avoid personal endorsements during tours and prioritize BCCI activities.

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar’s reaction to the new rules
The chief selector of the Indian cricket team Ajit Agarkar and captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma recently made their first public appearance since the BCCI issued these guidelines. When asked for their views on the new rules, the two greats of Indian cricket made some amazing comments that highlighted the true nature of the new rules.
“Who told you about these rules? Does it come from the official grip? Let it come and we’ll talk.” Rohit said while visibly upset with the reporter who asked him about the new guidelines during the press conference.
Agarkar’s reaction was also far from ideal and equally surprised the cricketing community. “I think every team has some rules. We’ve been talking over the last few months about different things where we can improve as a team and get a little closer together as a team. “We have seen in the last few months that there needs to be some changes and more cohesion in the team,” said the former Indian pacer.
However, he also said that it was not a school punishment for the players and that the rules were intended to set certain limits for the team, since these players are superstars in their own right.
“It’s not a school, it’s not a punishment. There are just a few rules and when you play for the national team you just follow the rules. These are mature individuals. They are superstars in international sport themselves. They know how to handle themselves.” Agarkar further added.
The Indian team will play against England in a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series starting January 22 before traveling to the United Arab Emirates to play their 2025 Champions Trophy matches.
