Our winter rains showed up heavily last Thursday. It rained all day so I rode indoors with my trainer. This was surprisingly relaxing because I treated it like a meditation, riding with my eyes closed, which is fine with a trainer. Since then it has rained off and on and I have, as best I can, taken secret rides outdoors with my rain gear, which works well when it’s only raining lightly. I try to avoid heavy rain as it can hurt if you get hit in the face at a decent pace.
Last Tuesday I was hoping for good weather as I led our group ride, riding for our regular leader, Kris. We were lucky and had a pretty nice day for the ride, which went up in the hills southwest of Morgan Hill and down some good bike paths to the sports complex in Gilroy before returning. We got a little sprinkled on the way back, but nothing too bad. Then on Wednesday it was cloudy and there was no rain, so I was able to do a longer and more challenging ride. Yesterday we had a few showers during my drive which later cleared up and now we have 6 days of sunshine forecast. All in all, it was a fun week of riding and dodging raindrops. In this series of storms we achieved a total of about 10 cm, which is a total of about 5 1/2 this season, a good early start.
