Vinícius, the Real Madrid and Brazil striker, was named FIFA’s “best” player for 2024 at the annual ceremony in Doha. The 24-year-old’s triumph followed an outstanding season in which he helped Real Madrid secure both the La Liga and Champions League titles.
Despite finishing second to Spaniard Rodri in the race for the Ballon d’Or, Vinícius secured victory in the FIFA Best award with 48 points, ahead of Rodri (43 points) and his teammate Jude Bellingham (37 points).
This is the first time a Brazilian has won the award since Ricardo Kaka in 2007. Vinícius succeeds Lionel Messi, who had won the award in the last two editions, and is the first player to win the award under its current name “The Best.”
The voting was carried out by captains, coaches, journalists and fans of the national teams.
